LocInPink - your breast cancer advocate in the localization industry

Locinpink is a non-profit initiative that aims to raise awareness about breast cancer in the localization industry.

Sometimes all it takes is a spark

LocInPink was born in October 2022 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It all started when I reached out and asked some localization friends and colleagues to join a Pink at Work event, after several years of supporting the cause locally and partly because of family history with cancer. Before I knew it, the word had spread further and a whole lot more language professionals and language service providers had joined, posting pictures in pink with the #locinpink hashtag to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Over the past months, other events have taken place and the initiative has received so much love and support from the localization community, which gives me more reason to move it forward.

Thank you for being an active part of the LocInPink community.

What the localization industry is doing to support the initiative
On 20 th October 2023, LocInPink invited localization professionals to wear pink to raise awareness and make a pledge to get screened – the most beautiful way to celebrate the initiative’s first anniversary.
LocInPink launches TogetherInPink at Elia Together 2023 in Rome, where the conference attendees showed up in pink to help raise awareness about breast cancer.

LocInPink initiates the “LocInPink for Ukraine” fundraiser for Inspiration Family, a Ukrainian patient-facing organization that supports adult breast cancer patients.

LocInPink joins Pink@Work, an annual event by Think Pink Europe to raise awareness about breast cancer.
The LocInPink and LocLunch™ meetup in Milan, organized by Ambassador Diego Cresceri, invites loc professionals to wear pink to raise awareness about breast cancer.

With Pink October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month – round the corner, Locinpink ambassador Indre Leleviciene took the stage at the ELIA Networking Days event in Krakow to talk about the importance of regular screenings and raising awareness about the disease.

Thank you Indre for using your voice for such a vital cause. Our words have the power to lead people to act!

Locinpink invited the localization community to wear pink at work (or home) on Friday, October 25th, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to support those affected by breast cancer, spread vital awareness about early detection, and normalize conversations about breast cancer and breast health.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, locinpink Founder and Know Your Lemons Global Certified Breast Health Educator Nertila Konda teamed up with Girl Gone International Tirana to host a themed breast health education event in Tirana, Albania.

locinpink ambassador Viveta Gene joins local event “Race for the Cure Greece”, bringing along the locinpink initiative and people from the Hellenic American University, which she recently joined as an adjacent faculty member.

LocInPink ambassador Indre Leleviciene is aware of the impact that a message given in-person has, so here she is, taking the stage at MCE Conference in Budapest and emphasizing the importance of early detection.

The significance of being educated about breast cancer cannot be understated: if it is detected at an early stage, in 9 out of 10 cases it can be cured.

In her own peculiar and original way, Ambassador Gergana Toleva held a special local awareness raising event in Bulgaria on Women’s Day. Her dedication is something to be admired! Focusing on local acts of kindness and awareness not only empowers communities but also underscores the profound global ripple effect of individual contributions.

Elia Together kicked off in Riga with a special message from LocInPink. A message about coming together in solidarity as a community, about making a pledge to get screened, about advocating and empowering. Because fighting breast cancer is not meant to be done alone.

Locinpink Ambassador Richard Brooks took the locinpink initiative at Elia FocusPM in Belgrade in a subtle-but-not-so-subtle-way (zoom in for the cutest pink ribbon lapel pin) to remind people that breast cancer does not happen only in October.

Locinpink was live at the “Translators on AIr” series, for a special event called “The Real Survivors of the AI-era: Instilling Hope with Locinpink”, organized by the amazing Viveta Gene. Nertila shared a few inspiring stories, talked about where the initiative is heading next and spread a message of resilience and hope.

Ambassadors Indre Leleviciene and Diego Cresceri joined as surprise guests and shared their journey and perspectives too.

What we do makes a difference and we have to decide what kind of difference we want to make.

This is the kind of difference LocInPink wants to make. Thank you for being part of it.

Early detection saves lives

Book a breast screening appointment for yourself or a loved one today.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer is currently the most common cancer globally, accounting for 12.5% of all new annual cancer cases worldwide. In other words, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in her life.

Even though breast cancer is one of the better-known and probably more-talked-about cancers, there are still a lot of misconceptions around it and many women still have not made mammograms and ultrasound screenings part of their healthcare routine.

LocInPink’s mission is to keep the breast cancer conversation going all year round, by serving as a platform where localization people can access breast cancer resources and information and share their stories and experiences, ultimately becoming a champion for the breast cancer cause and creating a community of solidarity, empathy and hope.
